My Story

Music is much more than something I do- it defines who I am. Music is my first love, my passion, my dream-indeed, it is my life.

Life is not just about making choices. It is about having the conviction to stand by them. It is about a child of eleven deciding to stay in her motherland, rather than in the country she was familiar with. It is about an adolescent of sixteen choosing to leave the comfortable confines of home to see the world. It is about a girl of eighteen realizing her passion and making sacrifices to nurture it. It is about a young woman turning down plush job offers to pursue her dream.
It is my story and I am proud to narrate it.
My love affair with the arts began at the age of five in Kuwait. But, it was the Gulf War that brought my family back to India, enabling me to study the Indian classical arts, Carnatic music in particular, seriously. Barely a year later, I firmly declared that I did not wish to return to Kuwait after the War.
Yet, on completing secondary school, my independent (yes, a little rebellious) streak prompted me to grab the opportunity to study in Singapore. Two years in a competitive academic environment left me intellectually stimulated, but spiritually thirsting for India, the only place where I could imbibe the art I loved. I chose to go with my heart and made my journey homeward.
However, I had realized that there were two contrasting sides to my personality- one, the logical, analytical thinker, and the other, the creative, dreamy artiste. Hence, I decided to pursue a degree in Engineering and then in Management, simultaneously devoting my energies to the pursuit of excellence in art. As my knowledge of both the arts and sciences deepened, I began to see that the two were, in fact, complementary. I had much more to offer to the arts field, in light of my scientific outlook.
I continue to face such decisions everyday, where there is one path that draws me towards music, and one that takes me further away. But, in my mind, the choice is clear. Because, to me, music is much more than something I do- it defines who I am. Music is my first love, my passion, my dream-indeed, it is my life.
